A mother dog was forced to say goodbye to her puppy in central China after it was adopted.
The mixed-breed stray dog has been under the care of students at Zhengzhou University in Henan province since mid-September, when she gave birth to a litter of seven puppies.
Monday’s video captures the tearful mother kissing her brown puppy goodbye before handing it over to its new owner.
The female owner was observed carrying the young puppy to her scooter while the concerned mother followed behind.
The mother dog stopped next to the owner’s scooter with her head, tail, and ears lowered, as if pleading to see her puppy again.
The owner lowered the puppy to its mother, who greeted it with goodbye kisses and licks.
The owner was heard assuring the mother dog, “Don’t worry, I will take excellent care of your puppy.”
The mother dog then turns her head and walks away, but not before giving her adoring puppy one last look.
Millions of people have been moved by the viral video, with many commenting that the tragic separation appears to be “straight out of a movie.”
