Just a few weeks ago, the Hearts & Bones Rescue organization performed a heartwarming rescue when they brought in a stray Shepherd mix to Dallas Animal Services. The stray dog, not too long ago, had given birth to an adorable litter of 11 puppies, and among them, there was one that immediately stood out. While all dogs are born with their unique facial features, some even boasting pronounced beards, one of these puppies possessed something truly extraordinary – a handlebar mustache.
This endearing five-week-old pup, affectionately nicknamed Salvador Dolly, was rescued from the streets on July 10th and has since captured the hearts of many with her charming mouth markings. Salvador Dolly is part of a mixed-breed litter, characterized by a white body with striking black ears and a tail spot. However, what truly sets her apart is the hilarious ‘mustache’ shaped marking adorning her upper lip.
For a couple of weeks, the dedicated staff at the shelter provided care for Salvador Dolly and her entire family. However, with as many as 100 homeless animals entering their doors each day, it became evident that this situation wasn’t sustainable for the young family. Allison Seelig, a representative from Hearts & Bones Rescue, expressed their concern, stating, “Puppies are at a very high risk of getting sick in the shelter environment, so we knew we had to get them out. We went to meet them last week and were able to find an incredible foster in Dallas who took the entire family in.”
When rescuers first laid eyes on Salvador Dolly, also lovingly known as “Mustache Puppy,” many found it hard to believe their eyes. Seelig shared, “The first thing people ask is generally, ‘Is th at real?’ There’s a lot of ‘Omg stop it!’ and squealing over her. Honestly, her siblings are also so cute, so we were all oohing and ahhing over the whole group of them when we met them!”
Despite being only 5 weeks old, Salvador Dolly may appear a tad too young to sport a bushy hipster mustache, but she wears it with pride. The entire family is now in the safety of their foster home, where they receive the essential medical care and affection they require. The dedicated foster parent ensures each puppy is closely monitored, regardless of their facial hair status, and ensures that Mama gets her well-deserved breaks for downtime. Seelig mentioned, “The puppies are still nursing, which can be a lot for Mom to handle, but her foster makes sure to give her breaks to have some downtime. She’s also getting lots of food to make sure she keeps her calorie intake up!”
While Mama works tirelessly, her adorable pups are doing quite the opposite. Seelig described their typical day, saying, “The puppies aren’t walking much yet, and they spend their days alternating between wrestling and crawling all over each other, snoozing in a cuddle pile, and eating. Quite the life!”
Once the puppies are weaned, the entire furry family will embark on a journey to New York City in late August. There, they will find new foster homes as they continue their search for forever families who will provide them with the love and care they so rightfully deserve. Salvador Dolly, with her unique handlebar mustache, is sure to win over hearts wherever she goes, proving that sometimes, a little touch of whimsy can make all the difference in the world.
