Jake Owen is mourning the loss of one of his best friends – his German Shepherd named Slash. The dog passed away suddenly on Saturday after his stomach “flipped”, a condition more commonly known as bloat. The vet tried everything to save him, including emergency surgery. Pets Web MD states bloat occurs when a “dog’s stomach fills with gas, food, or fluid, making it expand. The stomach puts pressure on other organs.” It can happen to any dog but appears more in deep-chested, large breeds, like German Shepherds. The country singer is heartbroken and said, “I didn’t even make it home in time to say goodbye.”

He wrote a heartfelt post to his beloved dog on Instagram where he described Slash as “the sweetest most loving dog I’ve ever had. He was more like a human than a dog. While my other pups would run free across the farm, Slash just wanted to be by my side.”

He went on to say, “Losing a dog is like losing a family member. It was hard for me to even put this post together and share. Go love on your family. Go love on your dogs. See ya up there in Slashy. Love ya buddy.”
